Beach time !

Standard

A day at the beach is always a delight, which beach we choose depends on how the family is feeling, in need of chilling, adventure or people watching, or perhaps rocky without sand, that’ll be for my OH – he doesn’t do sand !! There are plenty of fabulous beaches to choose from, and plenty to suit all our needs.

Sweeping golden sand, rocky coves, hidden gems, or glamorous beach clubs with waiter service, that’ ll do nicely.  Just 30 minutes from La Rosilla, and a world away from the mountains.

This years beach season seemed to take for ever to arrive, and our first planned beach day the weather looked questionable, but I was determined, I’d worked hard, needed a change of scenery and a spit roast chicken had my name on it.  So we packed up, things for every eventuality and headed to the Costa.  Our favourite hidden cove, on the Nerja coastline was our destination, and yes the weather was, well, parky, but then that came with it’s positives no-one else had braved the day and we had the beach to ourselves.

Waves, wind, bat & ball, picnic, treasure hunts and rosie glow.

Hidden Cove La Rosilla Beaches

Torre-del-Mar is a charming, traditionally Spanish seaside town, with a long shingle beach. At the very end of the town,  over the last few years, have popped up some fabulous beach clubs, the ideal way to while a way a day, relaxing, chilling, sipping and dining, all the style without the Costa price tag.

Bahia del Tanit

Our last trip to the Beach club, a rare day in the week that me and my husband were off together, and yes I can get him to the ‘Beach Club’ , again was weather challenging, it was blowing a hoolie, and natural skin exfoliation occurred, after a few hours and many moves of the sunbed to face out of the wind, we gave up and headed…to the bar 😉

The weather from now on in should settle, and from tomorrow school is out for Summer 🙂 Beach time here we come.

Let’s do lunch !

Standard

One of the joys about living in Spain is the tradition of  ‘menu del dia’ – menu of the day, that all restaurants should offer to diners.  The long leisurely lunch is a way of life that I have been happy to adapt to, not possible every day but on days that it is , I’m there !

Many bars and restaurants are full to bursting at 2pm each day, with workers taking time out, to eat, chat and relax with one another before they start their afternoons working activities.  Popular eateries, can turn around hundreds of diners during this time, all enjoying 3 courses, bread, wine & water for a token price from 7 euros.

I have my favourites and depending on whether I’m just looking to refuel with honest good grub, or sit soak up the sun, or enjoy that something just a little bit more special, ‘Menu del dia’ can tick most boxes.

I was delighted to hear through the grapevine that one of my favourite places Tanit in Torre del Mar, was expanding their empire. Their promenade restaurant paved the way for new hip places in Torre del mar, they then opened the wonderful Bahia del Tanit beach club, which I, along with many friends and family frequent in Summer as much as possible, making the day at the beach a little more lovely.  Their newest venture Vintash Tanit, is located in town on the Avenida Andalucia.

Vintash Tanit Review

So that was it, after weeks of trying to get there, my OH and I decided to have our works Christmas ‘Do’ albeit after Christmas, and just the two of us 😉 and Vintash Tanit was the place to go.

We were not disappointed, the Tanit style was evident with their eclectic mix of furniture a shabby chic & boudoir interior, right up my street.

Staff attentive and welcoming like normal.

Review of Vintash Tanit Torre del Mar

We indulged in to start,  two sharing platters of mushrooms, stuffed with Roquefort & wrapped in bacon, and delicious berenjenas fritas (fried aubergine) served in modern baton style.

a couple of glasses of chilled white, and then ‘Menu del dia’

Chicken Caesar Salad, Pork, saute of mushrooms and cream sauce, followed by crepes & strawberries.

Stuffed to bursting, a cafe solo put a spring back in our step, or should I say a waddle back in our walk 😉

The price for 2 – 26 Euros – Spain I love you 🙂

Oh and the loos are beautiful – as my mum always says, ‘you can tell a god restaurant by it’s loos …’

Beside the seaside.

I have had the most frenetic time recently, work, work & work, but lots of play, play, play too 🙂

Time with friends has featured heavily, in between, cooking for family & clients, Mum’s taxi services, homework patrol, cleaning , blah, blah, blah you know the rest. Sleep seemed to have been put on a back burner, well so much to do so little time, but an odd cheeky siesta was necessary to get me through burning the candles at both ends.

My dear friend Kate from college arrived on a late night flight from Hamburg, for a short-break catchup, after 5 long years of our lives getting in the way, so as you can imagine, wine flowed & tongues wagged. One of our excursion whilst she was holidaying with me, was to the fabulous Tanit Beach Club in Torre del Mar, for our ‘Beside the Seaside’ day. A sea mist kept the temperature bearable and after a much needed coffee and cake to start, we bagsied our sunbeds, we were joined by Maria, and to my delight a ‘Chef’s display’ and TV cameras filming 🙂

Tanit Beach Club

Lunch was enjoyed in their delightful chiringuito, a canape ‘Tapa’ was offered and we shared and grazed on a Salad of goats cheese, walnuts and sultanas with a cana miel dressing, and then Chicken & bacon brochette, with a mustard & honey dressing.

We did brave a toe dip in the sea, but then the lure of comfy beds and a quick shut eye won 😉
